Chiang Mai Design Week 2024 (CMDW2024), marking its 10th edition, will be organized by the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization), or CEA, from 7 - 15 December 2024. This year’s festival highlights the collaborative effort to enhance local potential, bringing together diverse skills, perspectives, and cultural heritage to create sustainable innovations. CMDW2024 not only boosts local economies but also improves the quality of life, fosters social sustainability, provides opportunities for the youth, and contributes to a healthier environment. The event will take place in the two main districts of Chiang Mai, spanning the vibrant areas of Chiang Mai Old City, “Klang Wiang” (Three Kings Monument - Lam Chang), and “Chang Moi - TCDC Chiang Mai - Tha Phae.” Additional activities will be held across other districts, including Hang Dong and San Kamphaeng, and more.

The festival offers over 150 programs centered around the theme “SCALING LOCAL: Creativity, Technology and Sustainability – For Reviving Recovery.” It invites everyone to tap into the creative capital of local collaboration, draw from local knowledge and wisdom, and explore the application of technology to create innovative works, and drive the local power onto the global stage. This year’s festival features exhibitions, showcases, performances, installations, music, films, talks, workshops, creative district development, craft markets, and more, offering visitors to fully immerse themselves in Chiang Mai's unique culture.

Three Key Concepts Presented at CMDW2024

1. Creativity: Exploring, reflecting, and discovering ways to integrate creativity with local wisdom, aesthetics, and modern tools. This approach unlocks the potential of local assets, expanding channels and opportunities to enhance their value.
2. Technology: Leveraging technology and innovation to enhance regional resources and create impactful works that benefit a wide range of people. This approach not only fosters the creation of new works and improvements in daily life but also addresses current challenges.
3. Sustainability: Encouraging collaboration and the use of creative processes—the festival’s key objective—to promote economic, social, and environmental sustainability. This focuses on material selection, resource circulation, and the development of human capital.
